Prof Alfred Sit Wing-hang joined the Government in 1984 and was promoted to the Director of Electrical and Mechanical Services and General Manager of Electrical and Mechanical Services Trading Fund in 2017, responsible for electrical and mechanical safety as well as energy efficiency and conservation in Hong Kong and provision of engineering services to the electrical and mechanical assets of the Hong Kong SAR government with an annual turnover of more than HK $ 8 billion, concurrently to help leverage innovation and technology ( I & T) development in Hong Kong and nurture smart and green city initiatives. Prof Sit was appointed the Secretary for Innovation and Technology during the period April 2020 to June 2022. He was responsible for reporting to the President Xi Jinping of the I & T development of Hong Kong when President Xi visited Hong Kong in 2022. He was awarded the Gold Bauhinia Star by the Hong Kong SAR Government to recognize his distinguished services to the community and he is now a Justice of Peace.
Prof Sit is now the Chief Executive and Secretary of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, and is also a Senior Advisor to the President and Vice -Chancellor of the Hong Kong Baptist University, Advisor of the Institute for Innovation, Translation and Policy Research of the Hong Kong Baptist University, Professor of Practice of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Honorary Professor of the Baptist University of Hong Kong.
Prof Sit is an electrical engineer by profession and has over 40 years’ experience in public administration. He is a fellow member of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers. He was the President of the Hong Kong Institution of Facility Management, Chairman of the Biomedical Division and Secretary of the Nuclear Division of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers.
Prof Sit is recognized by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University as its Outstanding Alumni. Prof Sit also holds a Master Degree in Business Administration from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and has studied at the Renmin University of China for its PhD degree with focus on international relationship. Prof Sit has also studied at the Newcastle University of Australia for its Doctor degree of Business Administration and is a graduate of the Harvard Business School of its General Management Programme.
